What makes a resume ATS-friendly

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software a company uses to collect and search resumes before a person reads any of them. It reads the file left to right, top to bottom, and stores what it can parse. A resume that looks beautiful to a human can come out as scrambled text for the parser — sidebars merge into the main column, icons become junk characters, and text inside images disappears completely.

• One column, in reverse-chronological order (most recent job first).
• Real, selectable text — never a photo, a scan or a design exported as an image.
• Standard section headings: Profile, Experience, Skills, Education, Projects.
• Plain fonts and simple bullets; no tables, text boxes or two-column layouts.
• Dates in a consistent format, and the same words the job description uses for skills and tools.
• A PDF with real text. Word files also parse, but a PDF keeps your layout on every screen.

How to make an ATS resume in five minutes

1. Pick an ATS-safe template — ATS Classic, ATS Modern or Compact.
2. Fill in your details, roles, education, skills and projects. The PDF on the right updates as you type.
3. Write a two- or three-line summary. Type {years} where your experience goes and it is replaced with the years since your first job.
4. Download the PDF: scan the UPI QR, pay ₹10, enter the transaction ID from your app, and the clean PDF unlocks as soon as the payment is confirmed — usually within minutes during the day. Name the file with your name, for example ashish-ranjan-resume.pdf.
5. Export JSON if you want to keep a copy and edit the same resume later, on any device.

Resume format for freshers and experienced professionals

A fresher resume should fit one page: a short headline, education with year and percentage or CGPA, projects with what you built and which tools you used, internships, and skills grouped as languages, frameworks and tools. Put projects above education if they are stronger.

An experienced professional's resume leads with a three-line profile and the most recent role. Each job gets three to five bullets that say what you delivered, not what the job description said. Two pages are fine after five or six years; older roles can shrink to a line each.

ATS-safe templates or designed templates with a photo?

Use an ATS-safe template for anything that goes through a form: Naukri, LinkedIn Easy Apply, Indeed, and company career portals. Use a designed template when a person will read the PDF — a referral, a founder, a recruiter you already spoke to. Most Indian companies do not expect a photo on a resume, and a parser cannot read one, so keep the photo for the designed versions only.

What is free, what costs ₹10, and what leaves your browser

Building, editing and previewing are free, and there is no account. The preview PDF carries a pathsala.org watermark on every page; the download costs ₹10 and is the same document without it. Payment is a plain UPI transfer to Ashish Ranjan — scan the QR or tap through to your UPI app. A QR cannot tell the site who paid, so you enter the transaction ID from your app and Ashish matches it against his UPI app by hand; the clean PDF unlocks only once he has confirmed it, usually within minutes during the day, and never on the site's own guess.

Your resume itself is not uploaded: the form, the preview and the PDF all run in your browser, and the draft is kept in this browser's storage. What is sent is the UPI transaction ID you type at download, plus the template name, so the payment can be matched — nothing else, and nothing to sign up for. Do I need to sign up or log in?

No account. When you download we ask only for the UPI transaction ID from your payment app, so the payment can be matched, and that is all.

How do I pay the ₹10?

Click Download PDF, scan the QR with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any UPI app (on a phone, 'Open UPI app' takes you straight there), pay ₹10 to Ashish Ranjan, then enter the transaction ID shown in the app. Ashish confirms the payment by hand — usually within minutes during the day — and the clean PDF downloads the moment it is confirmed. This browser remembers your request, so you can close the page and come back.

I paid — why is my download still waiting?

Because a plain UPI QR cannot tell the site who paid: Ashish matches your transaction ID against his UPI app by hand, usually within minutes during the day, and the download unlocks the moment he confirms it. If it says the payment was not found, check the transaction ID on the payment's detail screen in your app and enter it again; still stuck, email ashishranjan47b@gmail.com with the ID.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

No. The form, the preview and the PDF all run in your browser, and the draft is kept in your browser's local storage. Only the UPI transaction ID you enter at download (with the template name) is sent, so the payment can be matched — plus the optional 'share with Ashish' panel if you use it.

What is an ATS-friendly resume?

One that applicant tracking software can parse correctly: a single column, real text, standard headings and simple formatting. The three ATS-safe templates here follow those rules; the designed templates are labelled 'not for ATS' because sidebars and photos confuse parsers.

Which template should I use for Naukri, LinkedIn or a company career page?

An ATS-safe one — ATS Classic, ATS Modern or Compact. They are single-column and plain, which is what online application forms parse best.

Should I put a photo on my resume in India?

Usually not for online applications: most Indian employers do not expect one and an ATS cannot read it. A photo makes sense on a designed resume you hand to a person, which is why only the designed templates here include one.

PDF or Word — which format is better for ATS?

Modern ATS software reads both. A PDF keeps your layout identical on every screen, so download the PDF unless a form specifically asks for a .doc or .docx file.

How long should my resume be?

One page for freshers and for up to about five years of experience; two pages is normal beyond that. Cut older roles to a line each rather than shrinking the font.

Can I edit my resume later or on another device?

Yes. Your draft stays in this browser automatically, and so does a confirmed payment — download again after edits without paying twice. To move to another device, use Export JSON, then Import JSON there; the file is yours to keep.

Does the builder check my ATS score?

No. It does not score or rank your resume; it gives you templates that follow the rules parsers rely on, and labels honestly which ones do not. Whether you get shortlisted still depends on matching your skills to the job description.

Can I add a photo from my iPhone?

Yes. JPEG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC photos all work, and you crop the photo before it is placed. It is only used by the designed templates and stays in your browser.
